About Me

Bonjour! My name is Lisa Hanlon. I was born and raised in Nelson, BC and have been teaching in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island, BC for the last two years. Before post-secondary studies, I spent a year in French-speaking Switzerland working as an au pair (nanny). I continue to take French language courses to maintain the language, in addition to teaching Grade 6/7 French Immersion last year. Moving north has been a dream of mine for many years and I am very excited to make my dream a reality! This year, I look forward to sharing my love of languages and culture with the people of Norman Wells and getting to know this wonderful community.

Like many, the way to my heart is through my stomach: Let's talk food! I love gardening, cooking and eating. I can't wait to learn more about harvesting native plants and growing food in the north! My first degree was in Organic Agriculture from the University of Guelph, then I completed my Bachelor of Education at Lakehead University, with a focus in Outdoor Education. One of my most faveourite places is to be outside. You will find me riding my bike, hiking, mountaineering, swimming, canoeing, and skiing any moment I can. I am very excited to explore the beautiful land around Norman Wells!  I also love sports and am planning to get involved in coaching this year. It's going to be a great year!
