About Me

Greetings! My name is Josh Elke and I am the grade 7 homeroom teacher at Mackenzie Mountain School. This will be my 3rd year teaching at MMS and my 5th year of teaching. I have been the high school math teacher here at MMS for the past 2 years and I have decided to take on a different role for the 2018 – 2019 school year. I love being a teacher, and I honestly couldn’t picture myself doing anything else. I look forward to coming to the school every day, and it is my goal to help my students feel the same way. Though teaching math is nothing new to me, I am really looking forward to having the opportunity to teach a few new subjects such as science and social studies.

Like many of my students, I also grew up in the north in the city of Yellowknife. Since leaving after high school, I completed my teacher training in Edmonton and taught overseas in London for 2 years. The more time I spend living in Norman Wells, the more it has grown on me and I am very proud to call this place home. During the winter months, I spend much of my time at the arena either coaching or playing hockey, and if I’m not at the rink, I’m probably watching hockey.

We have an amazing group of students here at MMS and I feel blessed to have the opportunity every day to make a difference in their lives. It is my goal to ensure these students have their best year of school so far and to carry this momentum as they continue their education and become lifelong learners.
